Looking forward to spring. Can not wait to crank out on my bikes. Have a Canyon Aeroad CF SL 8 and a Trek Checkpoint that I ride alot. Have not rode my mtn bike since last spring. Have you been pedaling?

Lead climbing can be dangerous. I had a hard drop when a camlock came free. More fun to follow or bring up the rear (good joke here) on climb. Never tried ice climbing

Magnesium would not be strong enough. I like aluminum with Carbon fork on my grave bike and carbon on my road bike.
You should try either combo. Years ago I had a TI mountain bike ride was very harsh.
