The average reading grade level in the US is middle school w/most people never reading a book completely after graduating high school.
I taught in a jail for several years. Earning a GED significantly reduces recidivism & benefits communities. Imagine what regular reading would do.

I read it the summer between 10th & 11th grades. It was my intro to magical realism & I fell in love w/the genre & John Irving.

Or marry someone who had health ins thru their employer.
In 2003 I had a blood clot in my brain & cancer diagnosis simultaneously. After not dying any health ins I could afford would exclude those conditions & treatments, but those were the only diagnoses I needed treatment for.
