This is a comic strip. Here’s the transcript: It’s 6:54 AM. Holden is calling his friend Annabeth. Holden says, “yo Annabeth, hit me up at Walmart.” “Okay,” Annabeth replies. They then Arrive at the Walmart. Holden is carrying the basket while Annabeth has in her arms a pile of cheap ramen cups. Annabeth is excited. “Maruchan ramen cups are only 67 cents each! How many can we fit into the basket?” Holden isn’t amused. “Oh, come on, Annabeth. Those sodium bricks aren’t good.” Annabeth replies, “Holden, I have $6.29 to my name and we’re at Walmart. My diet normally consists of me eating American cheese microwaved on a styrofoam plate. So shut up.” “You could honestly add some of that cheese to your freshly-cooked ramen. Should make for a creamier texture.” “Really? You’ve done that before?” “Kraft single. Frozen peas and corn. Soft-boiled egg. Soy sauce. Makes for some pretty good stuff.” “Wow! How gourmet.” Holden then starts blabbing in the background about how such a meal isn’t really gourmet and about what making a true ramen meal entails, but Annabeth is distracted in thought. She imagines herself as a waiter and chef at a high-end French restaurant who is serving the noodles to her best friend, Alice. Alice is wearing a beautiful dress and is ecstatic about the ramen meal being served to her. “Gosh, Annabeth! I didn’t know you were such an accomplished chef! Was adding the egg your idea?” “Yes…” Annabeth lies. “I was laughed at for it. Like all misunderstood geniuses.” “You have SUCH good taste!” Annabeth then begins to pour Alice a drink. “Mhm. These noodles pair well with the ‘89 Pétrus Pomerol. Allow me.” “Yaaaaaay!”

This is a comic strip. Here is the transcript: Alice is browsing some sketchy website which is advertising a virtual desktop buddy. The webpage advertises the following, verbatim: “Kitty lovers every where ! The PC World has made a calling to our homes : world’s first talking cat desktop asistant [sic]. Meet . . . ‘ Charlie Catnip ‘“ An image of Charlie Catnip is on the webpage. It’s a cartoon cat dressed like Charlie Chaplin surrounded by speech bubbles which each stare a supposed bragging point for the program: “Talk!”; “Jokes!”; “sing!”; “E-mail!”; “Search!”; “Miaow!” A large horizontal button below the cat literally says “DOWNLOAD NOW]” Alice is very thrilled to have come across this site. “Yaaay! Lucky day! It’s like, this targeted advertising was made specifically for ME!” She clicks on the download button. “Huh? ‘Quarantined’? Silly computer! Let’s just get that file outta there… ‘Would you like to also install the Bing toolbar?’ Why not!” Five minutes later… Alice is on the phone in a frantic state. “Oh my gosh oh my gosh oh my GOSH! This is a comic strip. This is a transcript: (Holden, Annabeth, and Toast are walking outside late at night together. Annabeth and Toast are wearing sweatshirts.) Holden says, “You know the first thing I’m gonna do when I get my driver’s license?” Annabeth replies, “Probably something psychotic, I reckon.” To which Toast adds, “He’s gonna crash his Ford pickup truck into a Motel 6.” Holden is incredulous. “Man, what?! No! I’m gonna take us on a road trip across America.” “Not unless I get my license first, heh,” says Annabeth. Holden says, “Hell no. We’d wanna ride in MY car. I’ll—“ Toast interrupts him. “Oh uh definitely not. I can imagine you doing some freak-decorating to your car which I don’t wanna associate with.“ Toast begins to imagine what Holden’s hypothetical pickup trip would look like. “There’d be a crazy suspension lift for no reason. Thing’ll topple over like a slinky… Definitely a Confederate flag despite you being a Northerner… And bumper stickers defending your right to point a shotgun at the CVS clerk…” Holden is fuming. “DUDE! You’re making me sound trashy! What in the WHAT?!” Annabeth giggles. “Teehee! Imagine he has to brake suddenly and the body of his truck flies off like a frisbee.” Toast chuckles while Holden yells, “I’m NOT getting a lift!”

(Alice is outside looking upwards at the sky.) ALICE: “I wonder why the sky is blue. It could’ve been yellow or purple, but it’s blue! And no one asks why!” (Alice then phones her friend Annabeth.) ALICE: “Hi, Annabeth! Look outside! The sky is BLUE!” ANNABETH: “…” ALICE: “Why is the sky blue? Why not green?” ANNABETH: “Because the wavelengths of light associated with the color blue easily reflect off of gas particles in the atmosphere.” ALICE: “…I don’t know what a wavelength is.” ANNABETH: “You have a dictionary, don’t you? Look it up.” ALICE: “Okie-dokie.” (Alice struggles as she carries a gigantic dictionary over to her desk.) ALICE: “Oof! Why is th-this so HEAVY? I d-don’t even KNOW this many words!” (Alice gasps and sighs in relief as she finally slaps the book down on her desk with a THUD.) ALICE: “Okay! Phew! Uh, I’m not sure how to even find that wave-thing word, so, um, I’ll just open up to a random page…” (Alice then randomly opens the dictionary up to the definition for “perspicacious,” meaning “of acute mental vision or discernment; keen.”) ALICE: “Hmmm… Hey, that’s Annabeth! TOAST: So yeah uh they’ve been planting yield signs at the T-junctions ‘round the neighborhood which has greatly affected flow-of-traffic dynamics and— (Suddenly, Toast is interrupted by the lyrics to Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom!! by the Vengaboys.) HOLDEN: Dammit dude who the HELL set this ringtone!? TOAST: Holden since when did you have a cellular?? HOLDEN: Jealous much? (Holden holds a giant, clunky old-school brick phone to his ear, which has a giant antenna and is emitting heavy amounts of static and background noise.) TOAST: Dude what in the world is that electromagnetic cancer box and why are you putting it against your ear? HOLDEN: Do you mind? I’m trying to converse with Annabeth. (Annabeth listens on her phone to Holden—or at least tries to, as he keeps getting interrupted by static.) HOLDEN (through the phone): *FFFZZSSH CRACK* —what’s up Ann— *KRRRSSSHH* —orry my phone’s janking ou— *FFSSSHHZZZ click* —LA-Z-BOY PRESIDENTS’ DAY SUPER SALE! This is a comic strip starring three of my original characters: Toast, Annabeth, and Alice. Currently, Toast is visiting his friend Annabeth’s house. But he’s got some complaints… (Toast is looking at a metal tray with an assortment of some cheapo snacks on it placed in front of him. He’s clearly confused and disgusted.) TOAST: “Dang are these really all the snacks you got? … Like you don’t have anything in the manner of Pop-Tarts?” ANNABETH: “Who the heck asks for Pop-Tarts at someone’s house?” TOAST: “Annabeth please this is a platter of saltines with mustard on top.” ANNABETH: “It’s called a minimalist budget-charcuterie, thank you very much.” TOAST: “It’s called poverty.” (The phone rings—Annabeth steps out and answers it.) ANNABETH: “Sorry, hold on—Hello?” (It’s Alice! She’s the one calling Annabeth.) ALICE: Hi, Annabeth! I have a question: how do worms use the bathroom? I never draw colorized art, but I wanted to experiment with a set of Ohuhu markers that was gifted to me.
