The portrait is decorated with the drawing of a dove with a gaping wound in its chest from which fire springs out, and flowers upon a thorny branch. Red and Green are the most prominent colours for details such as the thorn bush or the background behind the dove, and brown for his hair, tunic, and the wooden pater noster beads. The bead depicting the world offers a pop of blue.
