New Mexico doesn’t want it, either! We were barely added to the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act in summer 2025!
Earlier this year, Nevada passed a (bipartisan!) resolution, AJR 13, opposing the resumption of nuclear testing. Nuclear testing comes with potential harms to people and the environment and NV doesn't want it. Here's what I told the state legislature about why any return to testing is a bad idea:
Putting Science to Work for Security: A Call to Prevent Nuclear Testing
Scientists have a role to play in protecting our collective future by speaking in opposition to a resumption of nuclear weapons testing.

My @ucs.org colleague Dr. Laura Grego explains why the Pentagon's _claim_ that a A House of Dynamite is wrong about the effectiveness the anti-missile system that supposedly defends the US against long-range nuclear attack is a load of hooey. The system, as the movie says, is a coin-flip at best.
A House of Dynamite Gets It Right—But Here’s the Full Picture
The Pentagon is wrong to attack the movie for being inaccurate. We cannot rely on missile defense systems to protect us from nuclear destruction.

Last night I discussed the potential for the U.S. to resume nuclear testing at a public event only to wake up to this headline…
Trump directs Pentagon to test nuclear weapons for first time since 1992 — The Washington Post
The president said he wanted testing to occur “on an equal basis” with Russia and China, just before he met his Chinese counterpart for high-stakes trade talks.

The rain falls in Española today. Tritium venting is temporarily suspended. This is a blessing twice over. Happy to be with community today!

While a group of us will be gathered in Española to discuss cultural traditions on Saturday at NNMC, #LANL will be venting tritium. (1/2)

- Stay indoors as much as possible during the venting period
- Keep windows and doors closed
- Delay rainwater collection and harvesting gardens or fields until after the venting period
- Limit outdoor activity for children, elders, pregnant people, and those with health conditions

Over 100 people online but none allowed to give oral comments during the 2-hour mtg. regarding radioactive tritium venting at LANL on Wednesday night. They didn’t want public comments; they wanted “technical questions” but rely on local NGO’s to translate the tech-speak for frontline communities.
