I was sure I would hate it without the Duke but to my surprise I like her better with a man who shares the same values as her father. I hope they make a season 6. #missscarlet #PBS

#OTD in 1818.
Mary Shelley's novel Frankenstein; or, the Modern Prometheus first appears anonymously in London. Its originality is praised by Walter Scott.

I’m starting the new year by reading a 106-year-old #romance, The Land-Girl’s Love Story by Berta Ruck: www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/74644

It features Joan, who flees the city & reinvents herself as a Land Girl.

Seems appropriate for New Year’s Day, when many of us feel the need to embrace change.

I'm reading Berta Ruck's His Official Fiancée, published in 1914, and so far, I'm surprised by how contemporary it feels (despite the far-fetched premise).

Finished Season 5 of Miss Scarlet and loved it! The mutual respect between Miss Scarlet and Inspector Blake is refreshing. He sees and appreciates how impressive she is.
