A lot can go wrong when creating a new world. To get that #slice of heaven where you can wriggle your toes in some grass, you #chance having molten magma erupt and scorch it all. The humans like that about Earth. They are destruction wrapped in niceness, too, after all.

Glittering dew drops dangle on the #laces of a spider web. That's how you have to think of space. The #constellations you see hang from the strands our interstellar ships travel along. The spider is the one stealing time so we can never go back, even if our loss was unfair.

"Do you have an outlet?"

Its eyes were sunken into shadowed skull pits, its hands #malformed claws clutching the phone, scrolling an infinite highway.

"You can plug in there," I said.

I suppose I'd misunderstood, as it just continued to swipe, searching for its #outlet.

Our shorings and footings for the new dam were #pummeled and swept away by the river yet again. We had to give up. The math was good, I just shuddered to think what force we had overlooked. I swear the leaves cheered, the water chuckled, and the #moss breathed with relief.

The #spiders were amazing #engineers, building more than we realized. I was amazed to see that the town signpost was made of tightly woven webs. Then I noticed the clouds, the cars, the trees - all webs. Too late, I found out they could weave handcuffs and gags as well.

The sudden crash of a tree falling was a shock. Even crazier was seeing a naked woman half emerge from the #elm stump.

"Who are you?" The she-tree demanded.

"Literally nobody!" I stammered.

"At long last! Please, to finally settle the debate: did I make a sound when I fell?"

It was supposed to be a game. But I didn't feel the VR headset anymore. The #onyx polish of the gun at my hip and the #rough stubble on my face felt very real.

Wait, did the constellation of pins on the map on the wall point to a real killer?

Was I in someone else's game?

Every nation raced to where the alien capsule fell from #space, cutting a deep scar through the desert. All #movement paused until bullion spilled from it, the sparkle of gems reflecting in the flashes of gunfire.

Far away, the aliens retreated from the feeding frenzy.

We'll never be #broke again. The treasure is hidden in a slipstream reality. Our guide lays down. He doesn't use a map. He says he sees the path in the #liminal edge of sleep. But every time he wakes, he screams. Maybe there's a reason we forget dreams of the other realms.

So tempting. A gently smoking campfire in a grassy clearing. A camping chair set out. A folding table crammed with food. Like a curious woodland #deer, he stepped closer.

I set traps for humans.

I remember so much about that old car. The gleaming chrome - even the tail #pipe was polished. The Beach Boys on the #speakers. My skin stuck to the seat. I can see why someone uploaded the memory to the Earth Memories Album. I wish I had a good one to upload for everyone.

12 entrees on the menu. 10 appetizers. 4 desserts. 10 drink options. A simple #matrix, just 4800 possible combinations to evaluate. But in practice, no way. The waiter was coming. 60 seconds - 80 combinations per second to decide on.

"Have we decided?"

What? The #nerve!

None of his #scars are straight as an #arrow. Neither were the stories of how he got them. Near misses. Close scrapes. But the worst one is the invisible one making his countenance as dark as the pub he hides in. She knows that's the worst one because she put it there.

The goggles dropped an alternate reality over us like the falling curtain of the #old theater. Immersed in the glossy, fabricated fantasy of AR, we never noticed the walls and seats peeling and falling apart. We never noticed the decay of each other either.
