I can't enjoy stories, much less romances, that throw away the build-up of the relationships of characters

I like my ships well-rounded and only really have one or two crack-ships that I like, and it's only in passing

call me basic or cliche but I need my romances to be

romantic

so seeing "I ship this because this is a 'romantic story'" just rubs me the wrong way

I just love romantic stories, adventures and love stories (or even both) alike, but I'm so tired of people taking weak bases for ships? I guess?

it's honestly exasperating seeing "romantic story" being immediately interpreted as "oh there's gonna be a romance between A and B (or even C or more)"

I respect ships that aren't downright illegal or in similar veins, but I'm certainly not gonna like all of them, or even most of them
