#blinddrams number 5 a bit of a late night dram, lots of flavour but not massive depth. I’d guess a heavily peated Ben Nevis and we score it 3.

#blinddram dot 3; rich nose, highland toffee and coke basted ham, driftwood bonfire, salty rotting seaweed on the strand line, mustard powder, on the palate, big fruity toffee, Moffat toffee. stewed plums.

#blinddrams dram 2; great deep nose with coal oil and shoe oil, hay and grist, on the palate it is peppery toasty, industrial, some bitters, dusty vanilla and a little white pepper. salty finish.

#blinddrams dram 1; this is growing on us, and water brought it alive. but I would not rush out to buy a bottle. so it’s a 2 from us.

#blinddrams no.1 a little farmy on the nose, some stewed fruit, a nice toasty sweetness on the palate, Madeira cake, toffee, salt, and a peppery finish. quite oily and chewy.

Dram 1 was the second batch since the Douglas Laing takeover of Strathearn, who ferment for 144 hours (6 days) using Maris Otter barley. It’s matured in a combination of bourbon, sherry and virgin oak casks, bottled at 50% and has an RRP of £80 #BlindDrams

Dram 2 was an English single grain whisky from @circumstancewhisky.bsky.social Fermented for a whopping 12 days, it’s 51% malted rye and 49% malted barley using mead and french saison yeasts and aged for 3 years in a single Tawny Port cask bottled at 48.2%. £55 direct from their website #BlindDrams

Dram 3 takes us back north to Speyside and to Glen Elgin distillery, who typically ferment for 90 hours. This is a 6 year old from Claxton’s matured in a sherry cask and bottled at 50% abv. £58 direct from their website #BlindDrams

Dram 5 is from Laphroaig, who typically ferment for 55 hours, but here they gone up to 115, to dial up fruit and soften the peat. As a result of this experiment, Laphroaig have extended all their fermentations. It’s matured in ex-bourbon casks and bottled at cask strength 59.6%. RRP £160 #BlindDrams
