Transponders are more like nuking an island and repopulating with perfect clones of the inhabitants. Those are just new instances of the same people, so why would consciousness magically carry over? Lots of eerie metaphysical thinking in this conversation at times.

If done gradually there will be some changes between each part of the community but unless decades go by it should not be enough to alienate their sense of oneness and for their identities to drift. So that's fine too.

That's like putting an island's population on boats and taking them to a neighboring island where an identical town has been built. They each retain their memories and they're relationships can go back to normal with little fuss.

Temporal and spatial continuity matter because you need to preserve the collony. You could in theory transplant my brain bit by bit and if done fast enough for most neurons to survive it should feel like losing consiousness and coming back.

If we assume no supernatural element to consciousness then I'm just the sum of my neurons' activity. Copy pasting my brain down to each synapse might make a perfect clone but I won't suddenly see through their eyes, no matter if it's done gradually or instantly.

The transponder breaks continuity in a way that destroys all the neurons. It's the second version of the Theseus thought experiment were the whole ship is taken apart at once. Just imagine it takes too long and the planks rot, that's what would happen to the neurons in any dismantling scenario.

Frankly this removes all ship of Theseus type uncertainty. You replace neurons gradually in order to not disrupt the rest of the brain, similar to how it happens naturally. Then to make doubly sure that it worked you check if the artificial parts have properly integrated. No debate about what's what

The most masculinity I can handle is combichrist, anything more and I start puking and crying

I do think it's as tonedeaf as nazi punk tho, like I'm sorry but the whole genre is extremely political. Maybe you can make claims that new wave muddied the waters by going pop but you can't say the same about industrial. You cannot be singing about ancient aliens over that trance lead bro gtfo?

Luddites aren't socially conservative, I mean they can be I don't expect the average non technical anti AI artist to have nuance and they may very well be driven by self preservation alone. But it's not about opposing change, it's about opposing harmful applications of new technologies.

It's not resynthesis and inpainting of content that is evil, and if research stayed small scale AI would have been focused on model quality and efficiency. But acting as if the horrific large models we have today are beneficial is like propagandizing about nuclear energy while building a nuke.
