For days I’ve been hearing a Ladder-backed Woodpecker but couldn’t find him—until this evening! He finally made an appearance 😍

So far May has been a really good month for reading… #booksky #storygraph

It’s a mediocre picture but posting so I can commemorate the joy I felt watching this little friend at the new feeder. The world’s a mess, but the birds keep bringing me joy.

Caring for dogs who are going to be euthanized is emotionally hard. But being able to provide enrichment to them was a privilege - to see their joy, in what is otherwise a tough place to live. Rest in peace four beautiful souls 🐾🐾🐾🐾

We are in the process of buying a house. We fell in love with the yard, and I’m so excited to make it a wonderful hangout spot for the birds. I have a Droll Yankees tube feeder and a suet feeder, but I can’t decide what other feeders I should add 🤔. Maybe also a bird bath? #birdnerd

This is Ellen. She’s really shutdown and anxious. Yesterday my win was getting her to engage with a Kong.

I’m discouraged by my shelters lack of enrichment program. Someday I hope to run an enrichment program at a shelter, but for now I’m going to do what my limited time allows for the Ellens ❤️

Everything feels like it’s falling apart around me, but this cardinal is still singing its song. Thank you sweet bird for letting me find solace in your soundtrack.

Enrichment doesn’t have to be expensive or complicated. Nightcrawler loves shredding. This is a paper lunch bag filled with kibble crumpled up and thrown in a bigger paper bag crumpled up. He went to town shredding everything. One happy pup afterward ❤️

Listening to the birds, reading a library book, and watching my dogs find all the good sniffing spots from the rain. Trying to appreciate the tiny joys on my last day off.

Feeling the heavy weight of sadness and grief in my body today. I’m pretty lucky to be able to hang out with this guy all day. He gets me ❤️

It’s been a hard few days. I’m grateful for my pups who bring me so much joy. They are both having so much fun in the snow this morning 💕

My favorite way to start the day. #Birdwatching I love that the Merlin app can identify & hear what I can’t always see.

Puddin’ enjoying the bell peppers I made yesterday ❤️. He’s a very energetic guy who really benefits from enrichment. He’s available for adoption at the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter (Georgetown, TX)

I work at a shelter with over 200 dogs on campus. Enrichment (outside of some getting play yard/walk time) is too sparse. Today I prepped a bunch of peppers - thinking of the dogs that are able to destroy even the strongest Kongs and others who need some variety outside of Kongs.

What does your #animalshelter do for #dogenrichment? Do you keep a schedule? Do you vary activities? Is it staff or volunteer led?
