I’m 41. Whenever I’m about to post something online, I think, “my parents are going to read this and tell me why I shouldn’t have posted it.”

I’m looking for the most useless examples of software products that have added “AI” features by slapping on a chatbox.

Any other speculative fiction writers feel like they’re racing against reality? Can we chill for a moment because I can only type so fast.

I write literary sci-fi, the kind where the apocalypse starts a whisper: a broken search bar and a question no one can answer.

This is so accurate I’m checking around for hidden cameras right now.
How to be a Writer, #28367:
Look for perfect notebook in which to write new idea
Peruse collection of roughly 20,000 unused notebooks
Decide they are all too pretty to use
Buy new (plain black, Moleskine) notebook
Write idea on laptop

Yesterday I was reading a story for Black Fox and my 9-year-old asked me what it was about. I said it was about "adult stuff" and he asked what the problem was. "Because if there isn't a problem, there isn't a story," he said. Wise words, kiddo!

Ever wonder what happens to your short story or flash fiction piece after it's sent to a lit mag? I've been a volunteer first reader since May. I wrote about the process here, including a few tips for submitting. whisperingvoid.substack.com/p/my-life-as...

Loved: Howard’s End, Of Mice and Men, Dubliners, Hamlet, Much Ado About Nothing
Ambivalent: The Pearl, Romeo and Juliet, The Scarlet Letter, The Jungle
Loathed: The Grapes of Wrath, A Farewell to Arms
US and UK friends, I'm curious: What books were part of your required reading for highschool literature class? Which of them do you remember loving, and which did you loathe?

The collage fits oddly with the piece, I think.

Writers: yes, you are still a "real" writer if you
- have never published anything
- have no readers
- didn't write anything this month
- didn't write anything this year
- can't articulate words anymore
- can only float and mournfully wail
- were murdered ten years ago on this very spot

My friend wrote this! (And I beta read it and therefore take at least 1/64th of the credit for it being awesome.)
Riyati Rebirth by @kalani-shimizu.com was one of my favorite reads this year!

If you ever thought "Puella Magic Madoka Magica wasn't dark enough" then this is the Magical Girl book for you! I highly recommend reading it and nominating it for an Indie Ink Award!

Saturday morning coffee. I love this mug—my husband got it for me, and it’s fitting because the fact that he had a cat was one of the first things I appreciated about him! 🐈

RIP Wally Cat. I miss you so.

I’m going to post some random thoughts here today because why not. It’s rather gloomy outside, but I have coffee and the kids are playing nicely together.* How’s your Saturday going?

*Knock on wood. All the wood. I need a forest for knocking.
