I knit, I spin, I devour SF/F. I crochet (badly). Slogging through a Ph.D.

Lifetime higher ed staffer - beware: here be OPINIONS.

Two things:

1.) Be nice or leave.

2.) The institution will never love you back.
I have no kitties because allergies but I have a picture of a very comfy dog to offer for your amusement

Went to the office pumpkin decorating lunch. Everyone hail to the pumpkin song!

I am Not Great at sewing but found this linen dress thrifting for $8. A size too small in the bust, but the perfect collar/color. Opened both side seams. Got some wide cotton lace. A lot of profanity later, it fits! I am stealing this hashtag from @longpig.bsky.social #wedonotsew

From combed top to singles to yarn to final project. Corriedale top by Grittyknits, bought by friend for me to spin; spun to preserve the color gradient and the braids were plied together. Friend ran out of yarn and finished with the stripes on one end. #handspunyarn #handspinning #spinningwool

When you still lick your paws raw DESPITE multiple deterrent attempts, you get a bigger cone of shame. (I am very mean to small dogs, can’t you tell?)

Licking your paws raw DESPITE the slice of shame buys you hard time. #coneofshame

Licking your paws bald buys you time in the orange slice of shame.

Grittyknits corriedale, combed top to finished yarn. Worsted weight, I forget the yardage. Spun for my neighbor, who will both appreciate and use it. #handspunyarn #handspinning #corriedale

Maybe we can use this plying queue to my advantage on my proposal. If I finish my theory section I can ply for a set amount of time, maybe. (This isn’t even all of it 😅.) The 8oz gradient from my earlier pic is the pink one far left in the second shot. #handspinning #handspunyarn

I called Hector "Samson" this morning. :(

9 years later, I still miss my heart's companion. He was old, he went naturally. But still.

Here is Hector, prince of Troy. He has one brain cell but he loves you anyway.

Contemplating whether to do a mini Tour de Fleece this year. I should absolutely be working on my proposal but my brain needs an outlet. Maybe this project I started several years back #handspinning

Nothing like pulling out some #zoomknitting and realizing you’ve dropped a bunch of stitches in linen/cotton yarn. Thank god I use pointy needles for picking them back up.

I was so good and waited for dad to get back from his month-long trip before starting Murderbot. It’s so good! But also so short. :(

Wait for me by the clearing, my sweetest good boy. I will miss you so much.

Here is my current favorite picture of Hector. He has one brain cell rattling around in his adorable head, but he loves everything anyway.

Here is a picture of my dog Hector, prince of Troy. If you listen carefully you can hear his single brain cell rattling around in his adorable head. I hope he helps a little.

May I interest you in a picture of my catdog?

As a lifetime higher ed staffer, as a student, and as a parent I am watching the rising use of AI at the university with dread. I'm struggling to articulate why I hate it so much, beyond the infantile "that's cheating!" reaction, but Clay Shirky's article helps:
