I love my new steamdeck, but boy the desktop mode shows me that having a dedicated hardware with a custom tailored version of Linux still stinks. Like not recognizing clicks and the WiFi drops out and everything freezes level of “stinks.”

I had this dinosaur star on a T-shirt back in the day. Loved that shirt. Got compliments on that shirt from a guy who didn’t know what Mozilla was BUT was wearing an Andre OBEY shirt.

Attached: 1 image It has come to my attention that the artwork for the original mozilla.org "dinosaur" logo is not widely available online. So, here it is. As I explained in some detail in my 2016 article "They Live and the secret history of the Mozilla logo", I commissioned this artwork from Shepard Fairey to use as the branding of the newly-founded mozilla.org and our open source release of the Netscape source code, which eventually became Firefox. This happened in March 1998... https://jwz.org/b/yk0j

Between Pluribus and Star Trek: Khan, there’s a lot of stuff going on with hive minds right now. Very different in tone than the Borg (1989+).

Caffeine keeps me awake, but tea is too weak for us, so we have now discovered CHICORY, and it’s delicious with a BLACK AND STRONG flavor.

Highly recommended!

Immediately every other city in TN and the STATE ITSELF passed laws to ban this.

Later, courts held that the FCC has no authority to stop states from doing this against their own cities. Chattanooga is just grandfathered in.

iOS 26 Reserved Auto-Update Space: the reason why my phone periodically seems too full to even update the apps I’ve installed.

Congrats, Apple, you made me turn off OS auto-updates and auto-downloading.

macOS Tahoe has almost completely ruined the typography palette, which is sad because it was SO IMPROVED in Sequoia, as @nickheer noted last year: https://c.im/@nickheer/112111864231807304

I offhandedly talked about iTunes the other day, and my son, 13, asked me what that was.

Yeah, that happened SIX YEARS AGO.

Aside from the virtue and usefulness of Roselli’s whole piece I’m retooting, this is a fantastic piece of writing:

“*This* is why we keep working at accessibility. To shrink those cases. To move halfway to the wall, over and over, until we cannot slide a sheet of paper between our nose and the […]

Looking at a new #FOSS app:

Me: Wow! This looks great! Is there a Mac version? I mean, Mac runs on BSD, right?

FOSS: Wake up, sheeple. Get a real computer.
Also FOSS: (Of course here’s a Windows binary.)

(Note: generally this does not apply to command line programs)

It seems that Elon is talking more about #iainbanks in interviews lately. Is he doing a reread? Is he getting to the parts where people with power do actually intervene to help people out instead of just talking?

The Tahoe corespotlightd issues are real and terrible.

The fact that I’m using Pages and Numbers, apps that still haven’t been updated, doesn’t help.

A minor takeaway from the latest emails:

Wow, Jeffrey Epstein was either terrible at typing or terrible at writing—and he just didn’t care about it at all. The slovenliness of the whole thing. This is a man who Did Not Care.

I think the cash-only perspective is generational for a few reasons:
- If you remember a world before credit cards (I.e. 1980 for mass adoption), then they’re all cautionary tales
- if you think $20 is $20 is $20, 1980 and 2000 and 2025 are all very different $20
- Gas prices keep going up
- Gas […]

I know. Bear with me.

- *McCartney* doesn’t have enough good songs. “Junk” is great, but otherwise too much jam-session noodling.
- *John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band* is powerful, but some could have been […]
