We attended the Remembrance Sunday gathering at our local memorial at the Green in Acomb. The garden in which the memorial is set was full again this year. Here is the memorial after the service. I did the sketch a couple of years ago, but some things don't seem to change.

Can we have back please. It's very, very dull and bleak here.

I often get asked how long a drawing took me to make. I am sometimes tempted to say "about 35 years +the last hour and a half".

I would say so. It's not common to push the front wall out so far but perhaps they just started with a porch and then thought a bigger room would be good? The dormer windows suggest it was single storey at the front originally. The over sailing upper floor at the rear suggests it's the oldest bit.

I think it's called kinesthetics, which makes it possible to accurately draw distances & angles. I am sure the same is true when it comes to other parts of producing art.

Thank you. I had a book about architects & drawings in which the author said memories of place are crucial for designers. I think the same is true for artists & illustrators. It's not just about seeing things, our other senses get involved. Drawing regularly imprints memories.

The stonework in Alnmouth is mostly yellow ochre or raw umber in colour. Low sunlight made the yellow glow with an orange tinge. I think a memory of this got lodged in my brain and found its way into the page while I was adding the colour. 🙂

Thanks for sharing the Alnwick Castle material around. It was our first time visiting Northumberland on holiday though I have been there for work years ago. Alnmouth & castles including Warkworth, Bamburgh etc got my creative juices going.

A change is as good as a rest the saying goes. Getting out and about is no bad thing and chatting with new people is good for everyone. I tended to have to work in the office as an AO drawing board wasn't very portable.
