The correct term is honey trap.

Had Trump and Orbán met in Hungary, it would have been a "fascist fest in Budapest."

Given that the U.S. is the only advanced country without it, I suggest Democrats tee up national health insurance going forward. Republicans will whine about socialism (so what else is new?). Fact is it would represent the greatest legislative achievement since Social Security.

Just watched Guillermo del Toro's "Frankenstein" and couldn't agree more with your insightful N.Y. Times review.

At least Trump's presidential pardons won't shield his coup co-conspirators from prosecution at the state level.
November 10, 2025 at 6:19 PM
No one's ever accused this Trump toady of broadcast journalism.
November 10, 2025 at 6:15 PM
Let's hope that re Trump's laughably weak tariffs case the High Court will finally say, in the words of E.E. Cummings, "There is some s*** we will not eat."
November 9, 2025 at 5:13 PM
Policy-illiterate and mentally unstable. What could possibly go wrong?
November 9, 2025 at 2:44 PM
Just when you think Trump's politics of cruelty ("sado-fascism"?) can't possibly get any worse.
November 9, 2025 at 2:40 PM
"Sado-fascism"?!
November 9, 2025 at 2:29 AM
Doubly cringeworthy. Hardly surprising that the "short-fingered vulgarian" would have vulgar taste in decor. Plus, solidarity between fascist heads of state always so heartwarming.

Hardly surprising that the "short-fingered vulgarian" would have vulgar taste in decor. (Hat tip to Graydon Carter for coining that phrase nearly four decades ago.)

While there are contingency funds to provide SNAP benefits, Trump's clearly enjoying his politics of cruelty. Hard to imagine a sharper contrast than his Gatsby party at Mar-a-Lago and, that same night, the expiration of food subsidies for 42 million. A Democratic ad campaign waiting to happen?
November 8, 2025 at 3:31 PM
Ghislaine Maxwell likely knows every lurid detail of Trump's involvement with Epstein's underage girls, which explains why he bought her silence with that country club "prison" (along with a promise, presumably, to pardon her/commute her sentence on his way out).
November 8, 2025 at 3:12 PM
Taking the politics of cruelty to a new level. "Sado-fascism"??
November 8, 2025 at 12:49 AM
Solidarity between fascist heads of state always so heartwarming.
November 7, 2025 at 10:08 PM
Fascist solidarity always so heartwarming.
November 7, 2025 at 10:05 PM
Vulgarians at the gate.
November 7, 2025 at 10:02 PM
Fresh off that lavish Gatsby party at Mar-a-Lago -- its timing a PR debacle -- no better time for Trump to fold on SNAP and resume food benefits for 42 million Americans than late on a Friday afternoon.
November 7, 2025 at 9:58 PM
Gotta love that Doug Mills pic of Speaker Pelosi mocking Dim Donald with faint praise.
November 7, 2025 at 9:39 PM
Orbán is completely out of touch with the rest of Europe, not to mention a majority of his fellow Hungarians, recent polls suggest.
November 7, 2025 at 9:36 PM
Manifestly unqualified, of course, plus what appear to be masculinity issues best left to the psychiatrists.
November 7, 2025 at 9:15 PM
Spare us the "illiberal democracy" reference. That term not only understates the severity of the problem but threatens to give euphemisms a bad name.
November 7, 2025 at 2:42 PM
Felon-in-chief running true to form.
November 7, 2025 at 12:08 PM
These National Guard troops sure as hell didn't sign up to be political props and photo ops.
