Allan Holdsworth liked Northern English cask ale. He enjoyed brewing beer and invented a beer pump called "The Fizzbuster"

Some of his favourite beers were:
Timothy Taylor's Landlord
Beck's beers
London beer
Czech Budweiser Budvar.
Spaten Franziskaner in a weissbier glass.
Rice beers with lemon.

Cycling was one of Allan Holdsworth's favourite pastimes. Cycling when he was a teenager, and cycling in warm California weather, he would "ream out there in the hills". "Spokes" reminded him of cycling, and wrote a song called “Tullio”, named after bicycle inventor, Tullio Campagnolo.

Allan Holdsworth was influenced by several guitarists, including Charlie Christian, Kessel, Jim Hall and Wes Montgomery... But he also admired different horn players, including Charlie Parker and Cannonball Adderly, and John Coltrane. Level 42 Photo courtesy of Patrick Eden.

Allan Holdsworth didn't have any favourite albums. His solo albums were "snapshots of a different period in time". Despite not naming an overall favourite, he did refer to Hard Hat Area, Secrets, and The Sixteen Men of Tain as some of his best albums.

Classic for the heavily SynthAxe inflected album Sand. I love it and it features a stunning solo on the track 4:15 Bradford Executive.

Why did Allan Holdsworth stop using the whammy bar?

Allan Holdsworth stopped using the whammy bar because it became too common and he felt he was relying on it too much. Allan felt it was not something that was often heard, but after a while, it became a "fashion" and everybody started doing it.
