I don’t recall getting any information around it. We gathered that Skar King was cunning enough to have another creature as a weapon (possibly the original owner of the spine he uses as a whip)

As soon as he realised that Kong was gonna be a threat he switched to Shimo. I feel like SK was always planning on using Shimo, both as a means of dealing with Kong as well as a reminder to his subjects about the consequences of opposing him (even after kicking Suko’s friend into the lava)

From what I remember it was a test at first, mainly due to SK’s arrogance, he does commit to the fight but not 100% because as soon as he realises Kong can overpower him (after Kong slams him) he uses Shimo. He commits more during the zero gravity fight and the fight in Rio
