In one sentence

The prophecy means that as the world nears the Day of Judgment, honesty and trust will no longer guide society — they will become rare personal virtues rather than shared moral standards.

The Prophet ﷺ taught that holding onto honesty in corrupt times is a form of worship.

So the response is:

Be truthful even when it costs you

Keep your promises

Be trustworthy even when others are not

Teach honesty to your children

“Indeed, Allah is with those who are truthful.” (Qur’an 9:119)

Many scholars say yes, these signs are clearly visible:

Lies spread faster than truth

Deception in business, media, politics

Trust is rare

People value results over ethics

But Islam teaches:

Signs are warnings, not despair

What should a believer do?

When faith weakens, honesty fades

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“Truthfulness leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to Paradise.”

So when society drifts away from God-consciousness:

Lying becomes easier

Cheating becomes acceptable

Truth becomes inconvenient

Is this happening now?

Strength

Status

But:

“There is no faith in his heart.”

Meaning:

Skill > integrity

Image > truth

Success > morality

👉 A person may look impressive but lack honesty, sincerity, and fear of Allah.

4. Faith weakens → honesty weakens

In Islam:

Honesty is directly linked to īmān (faith)

Society becomes surprised by honesty

Dishonesty becomes normal, honesty becomes “exceptional”

👉 When honesty becomes unusual, it means it’s already largely lost.

3. People are judged by appearance, not character

The Prophet ﷺ said people will be praised for:

Intelligence

Eloquence

People betray trust for personal gain

👉 Honesty stops being a default moral value.

2. Honesty is no longer rewarded or admired

The hadith says:

“It will be said: ‘There is a trustworthy man in that tribe!’”

Meaning:

An honest person becomes so rare that people point them out

Scholars explain it in four main ways:

1. Loss of Amānah (Trustworthiness)
Amānah includes:
Being truthful
Keeping promises
Fulfilling responsibilities
Acting sincerely in positions of trust

Before the Hour:
People lie easily
Promises are broken
Positions are given to the unqualified

And in another narration:

“From the signs of the Hour is that trust will be lost.”
(Bukhari)

What does “honesty will be lost” actually mean?

It does NOT mean that no one will be honest anymore.
It means honesty becomes rare, weak, and no longer valued.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

**“Honesty (trust) will be taken away… until it will be said:
‘There is a trustworthy man in such-and-such tribe,’
and a man will be praised for intelligence, elegance, and strength,
while there is not even a mustard seed of faith in his heart.”
(Bukhari & Muslim)
