“No live organism can continue for long to exist sanely under conditions of absolute reality” - Shirley Jackson, The Haunting of Hill House
Not totally unrelated: I’ll never forget how happy-squee I was the day I learned that Hugh Beringar (*swoon*) is the son of the Third Doctor.

Adjacent topic [getting around Berlin], have you seen Ampelmännchen? I just learned of him yesterday and I’m a little obsessed.

Don’t worry, my TBR is still huge. There is so much amazing talent out there, it blows my mind.

I don’t only read horror, but when I do… damn this was a good creepy book month!

I think of it kind of like a cross between corned beef hash and spam. It’s only “gross” if you overthink it, but isn’t most food, really? Plus, it’s worth it for the awful/offal jokes, alone.

Andrew’s mom had dementia (RICD). It’s horrible all around. I’m so sorry. 🥺

It’s does have its “of its time” moments, but otherwise it’s a pretty straightforward folk horror story. The tale is fairly simple, the “groovy” bits are mostly just there for atmosphere and tension building.

John Wick, Wicker Man, and Wicked make for a *very* odd trilogy.

Reminds me of Keats’ death. The open window. Maybe she, too, had a long illness confined in her bed, and the window is open for her to fly away, free, now.

I am a horror loving, middle aged, old house loving, Seattleite with super anxiety disorder, so it was directly up my alley 🤣, but even that said, was a totally creepy, fun read! Thanks!

I want to say I learned about bodies liquefying in Stiff by Mary Roach, so this struck me as totally plausible when I read it yesterday, and just finished today, which is why I’m commenting on an old post, because I wanted say how much I loved this book!
