Sometimes sun does show up and gives nice winter sunsets
Ended up flipping it around. Having the main writing surface be above was annoying to use on mobile browsers
Still have to go through the colors and calendar design but the functionality is now all there.

Advantage of building something that only 2 people will use is that you can get as silly as you want.
