The only middle-class Iranians whose labor-lives will be recognizable to Westerners are those in upmarket tech and finance firms like Digikala, Snapp, Mofid and maybe some banks like MEB and Saman.

A huge proportion, voluntarily, lack full-time jobs. Even those in traditional full-time labor have incredibly unproductive office jobs pushing paper around — and that’s just the private sector!

Marxist in that few are involved in ‘production’ even tangentially (through design, engineering or logistics).
Non-Marxist in that the lifestyle of the average middle-class Tehrani will be completely illegible to the N. American middle-class.
