As my linguist friend reminded me - wasn’t UoN the only institution where you could do 3 languages at one point? Yes - the BA Modern Language Studies. 2 from A level and 1 ab initio. My undergraduate programne!

Yes and it was already pretty dire for MFL!

Is this true? The whole department? I did my BA in Modern Language Studies at UoN many years ago. It was transformative. I later became a modern languages teacher. I am so angry with the state of modern languages teaching in the UK. This will not help its status on the curriculum or teacher supply.

Our university also stressed that we were not supposed to ’become’ our mentors. But develop our own sense of teacher self. How does robo-mentor support this? Ultimately it does not adress the issue of teacher time - for mentorship or even reflection on the AI ‘insights’.

I remember the importance of emotional support in those early weeks in school. I think the robo-mentor focus on good/bad would be anxiety inducing. My mentor Gwyneth also moved me from thinking about what I was doing to what the students were doing. That initial leap in consciousness.

As I noted in my own post, the current principal was for a time a political civil servant (KD) at Regeringskansliet. Under Jan Björklund. So he went from teacher to vice-principal to civil servant to principal. Lovely guy. But the school and town are very embedded in religion and politics.

This is so depressing. Another Swedish dodgy free school employer to add to my list of dodgy Swedish free school employers.
