There seemed to be a reluctance to admit that anything *good* might happen because of DS9, such as “Bajor is on the up, Julian Bashir let the daylight in on Section 31 and we cleared up our house, we may even have good diplomatic relations with the Founders one day.”

Laas in the episode “Chimera” kind of did this. (One of Odo’s better traits was he wasn’t into firearms or bladed weapons.)

If I remember right, the author told a great story about getting Rene to sign a plush crab (he wasn’t going to call it a stuffed crab!) while he was in a production on Broadway, in honour of his Little Mermaid performance.

Odo’s sarcasm was particularly pronounced in that book. Bashir hears Odo swapping a string of “delta alpha” etc. with one of the security people and asks if it’s a code. “No, we’re practicing for a quiz on the Greek alphabet!” I laughed out loud reading that.

Maybe it’s Photoshop, which doesn’t consume the same kind of resources. AI isn’t exactly needed to paste a blackbird into an image of the Oval Office.
