Visual investigations at the FT. Architect who won a Pulitzer.
There was some great work done too - to industrialise and standardise the construction process, something that many people across the industry say needs to happen. The just in time construction system they developed was impressive.

A single 800m long module of the Line will be the world’s largest occupied structure. This is what the three modules of the first phase would look like if they were dropped into London. The finished Line would stretch from the capital to Birmingham.

NEW: Inside the race for AI capacity.
The quest for superintelligence is spurring a data centre boom — but critics question the cost, environmental impact and whether it is all needed.

NEW: Heavily armed gangs control 95% of Haiti's capital and are expanding their campaign of murder, rape and extortion across the country. Better armed than the Haitian police, it is weapons smuggled from the US than have enabled their dominance. We tracked how Haitian gangs get their guns.

Amazing to win two @amnesty.org awards for our visual investigations into Ukrainian children on Russian adoption websites and settler-soldiers in the West Bank.

Real estate has been crucial to the Chinese economy for the past three decades, but that began to reverse four years ago after the default of Evergrande. Land sales across China have halved since 2021.
February 25, 2025 at 9:22 AM
NEW: As the Chinese government struggles to ease the real estate crisis, state owned developers have been buying up land. In Beijing, the state now accounts for 60% of new land sales, with few private developers left.

The FT's end of year reading list is out! More than enough to keep you busy over the holidays, but imo @benmauk.bsky.social and Nyrola Elima's read on a Uyghur man's escape from China should be high on your list - it's great.

People in the village told us that no one has been able to pick their olives or graze their sheep and so can’t earn a living. They say it’s part of a systematic campaign to make Palestinians’ farms unviable and displace them from their land.

The FT has investigated a number of violent incidents over the past year in the Palestinian village of At Tuwani. Men in military uniform who we identified as local settlers shot into the village, for example and assaulted a Palestinian villager.
September 18, 2024 at 6:17 AM
Now, locals and activists say that it can often be difficult to tell whether the armed, khaki wearing men near their villages are soldiers or settlers in military-style uniforms.
September 18, 2024 at 6:16 AM
Many of the settler soldiers wear far-right patches on their uniforms, an activist told us, something that analysis of video and photo evidence by the FT has confirmed.

With Israel's regular army now deployed to Gaza and the northern border with Lebanon, many settlers have been called up to serve in the military, where they are responsible for law enforcement.
September 18, 2024 at 6:15 AM
Satellite imagery shows that settlers have built new outposts and roads, while activists describe how settlers have expanded the areas they control, by grazing livestock and through armed patrols.
September 18, 2024 at 6:13 AM
Over the past year, Palestinian villagers say that violent settlers have been emboldened - that there has been an increasing number of attacks on locals and greater encroachment on their land. They say settlers have long acted with near impunity.

Incredibly, @BuzzFeed is adding new trash links to our stories revealing the detention camps in Xinjiang. Our work on the camps' capacity now has links out to clickbait (the original links to research/other reporting that @meghara and I put in are still there).

To reach their homes, locals have to climb staircases with multi-storey drops to the side because external walls are still missing. Some residents have lived like this for nearly two years.
