Federal funding for medical research is important. There is still no cure for neurofibromatosis.
Dear CureNFwithJack Supporters: We have received devastating news: NF research funding through the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP) has been eliminated in its entirety for fiscal year 2025. This research program was originally established in 1996. Numerous NF advocacy groups, patients and nonprofits have advocated for decades for each and every dollar of this federal funding, including CureNFwithJack board members and Jack’s grandmother, aunt and uncle. For decades, these funds have provided crucial support for NF research – funding which led to not one but two FDA-approved drugs for the treatment of certain NF tumors. This alone is proof positive of the efficiency and efficacy of the clinical trials conducted as a result of the CDMRP’s NF Research Program. NF is not alone in this setback; other disease areas also saw funding cuts. This new reality fundamentally disrupts critical research and seriously endangers the chances of developing better treatments in the future for NF patients and their families. Despite this gut punch, we are committed to fighting harder, longer, and stronger than ever. Rest assured, we will endeavor to convince Congress to reinstate this funding next year, and, of course, continue to work tirelessly to
