2025 Eurobarometer shows strong support for EU climate goals, renewables, & energy efficiency. Concern is rising about climate impacts, especially in Southern Europe.

Ireland shows above-average support, however there is a strong need for reliable information.

Potentially historic rulings emerging from the ICJ Advisory Opinion today exploring what states must do under international law to protect present and future generations and the consequences for states whose emissions have caused harm, especially to vulnerable low-lying island states.

I was very sorry to hear of the passing of Joanna Macy this week. Joanna’s work played such a critical role in my own and countless other’s approach to climate action.

Thinking of all Joanna’s loved ones at this time, and looking ahead to working with others to carry her work forward.

Today, Ireland’s Just Transition Commission has launched its first report, urging Government to deliver a bold national strategy for climate action, one that ensures a fair, inclusive shift to climate neutrality, with benefits for all, especially the most vulnerable.

It was also great to have a chance to discuss the work of the Just Transition Commission with Mary Robinson and to receive a Dandelion pin as part of Project Dandelion, which I look forward to supporting.

We have an opportunity, and a responsibility, to truly embed just transition into climate action. The work at The Spark is not only showing us what is possible, but challenging us all to think bigger about what can be created through a people-centred climate transition.

It was wonderful to attend a special event this weekend as Senator Bernie Sanders, Dr Jane Sanders and former President of Ireland Mary Robinson were welcomed to the Bohemian Climate Cooperative to witness the wonderful work of the Spark Project.

Wonderful afternoon spent at TU Dublin Grangegorman campus learning about ongoing work with local sustainable energy communities, district heating projects & exploring universities as living labs. A lot to reflect on in terms of the role universities can play in helping to realise a just transition.

“In 2028, the world will look back at 2025 not only as a year of negotiation, but as a moment of global alignment - when governments, communities, business & institutions came together.. A year remembered as the dawn of a new cycle of cooperation, innovation, & prosperity worldwide”

It was great to attend the Climate Justice Forum hosted by Oxfam as keynote listener, hearing key insights on care, just economies, democratic governance, climate justice, intersectionality and more.

I look forward to bringing the insights to our work at the Just Transition Commission.

Looking forward to attending the Oxfam Ireland Ground Up: Climate Justice Forum this week.

I’ll be acting not as keynote speaker, but as keynote listener to a wide range of actors on what a just and sustainable future looks like and how we can make it a reality.

Wonderful to see a ‘DemoHouse’ launch in our community.

A show and tell house, designed to provide an accessible way to see the results of an energy upgrade retrofit in person, find out about supports, ask practical questions and explore the benefits.

Delighted to see this notice in a local shop window.

Beyond headlines, targets & technology discussions, we need to create more opportunities for people to come together, be supported in understanding the crisis & be empowered with solutions.

Place based gatherings of local peers will be critical.

This year’s St. Patrick’s Day takes place during a challenging time for those working for a greener future.

But as Mary Heglar reminds us, “This planet is the only home we'll ever have. There's no place like it. And home is always, always, always worth it.”
