Got an Arkansas Black apple tree this weekend. It is a local variety which once amounted up to 15% of state production. Now it rare and mainly found at local farmers markets. I decided to do my part in preserving this regionally significant variety

Several blooms from the past week plus a pitcher plant trap

A few blooms I saw over the past week. Apparently the week’s theme was red. Also I really need to propagate some of that witch-hazel

The Razorbacks have now gone 2-0 on the road against the two basketball programs Hog fans arguably like the least.

The improved defense has been the key to the two victories, and the best thing about solid defense is that it usually travels.

So tired of this idea that billionaires are our "betters" whose opinion is super important because they have a lot of money. It's bullshit. They're mostly greedy sociopaths who have no problem destroying people who get in their way. That doesn't make your opinion one to be valued, in my opinion.

I recently attended a scientific conference and gave one final presentation on my Masters Thesis. While there, I explored the local Botanical Garden which some of you may even recognize

Becoming a published scientist will certainly be one of this year’s highlights for me. It is an open access horticulture paper from research I did at during my Master’s at Auburn University

Got my first real snow since moving back to Arkansas. Took a nice stroll around the farm I work next door. I sure enjoy getting four distinct seasons again

In continuation of my (hobby) attempt at propagating Cacao, I attempted tissue culture on the second pod. While I am now away until next year, several of the seeds appeared promising when I left. I believe the biggest issue is getting fresh enough fruit

Some pictures from a recent walk I went on. I’ve taken many at this lake, but these might be some of my favorites.

Took a class trip today and saw a greenhouse full of Poinsettias. Almost gets me in the holiday spirit…but not until after Thanksgiving!

Chocolate, or cacao, comes from seeds within a giant pod. In order to propagate, you must remove the white pulp and sow seeds soon after breaking the pod open. The pulp itself is edible and where white chocolate comes from.
