Bloodbound is a story about transformation and autonomy. Faine Monroe is stuck in the in-between, not human and not vampire. She seeks the help of the vampire Verris to understand what is happening, keep her safe, and discover what it means to be a vampire.

Finally getting to the meat of the scene 1800 words in. Pun intended a little bit...

Eventually she'd get tired, need to rest, and when she came to again, the void would still be there, waiting. It would be an eternal night too black to see through, even for a vampire. She'd grow to miss the ticking of a clock or the drip of her apartment's sink, anything that would cut through the sound of her own voice or the oppressive silence. Would she die like that? Lost in a cycle of walking, begging, sleeping, waking, and walking, walking, walking until her body gave out? She'd become some strange part of the house itself. A frame on the wall, or a doll left in the attic, that Verris would pretend didn’t look like the woman she’d known for one night. No one would find her in the belly of a semi-sentient house.
