The Radium Girls by Kate Moore! One of the best books I’ve read this year, and I have read many. Prepare to be infuriated, but also to reflect on the fact that corporate greed has been with us for a long time and that all regulations are written in blood.

Tell them you’ll take them out for ice cream to chat about it once they’ve read it! Many times, for these outings, my kids will choose a book they want *me* to read, but sometimes, they’ll read one of my choosing. It’s a pretty effective tactic at my house (kids: 16, 14, 12)!

Fantasy is my kids’ (16, 14, 12) go-to genre. I’ve listened to a bunch on audio in the car with them, and I think the best newer titles are: Amari and the Night Brothers, Morrigan Crow, Sophie Quire and the Last Storyguard, and Impossible Creatures. I, as an adult, would happily reread any of these!

I’m reading aloud The Bletchley Riddle to my kids, and sadly, it is written in present tense. It’s driving me crazy!

It’s a great goal! The only danger might be that you end up avoiding longer books you want to read because they would take too long. I just track my reading without having a specific goal, and even then, I’m sometimes tempted to do that.
