I also think its delightfully ironic that the series that wasn't really about Gundam fans _feels_ like its about Gundam fans, because "wow cool robot" just never goes away lol.

War in the Pocket very specifically takes aim at people like that, because obviously that's super messed up! Al is a stupid kid who doesn't understand war and thinks he wants one to happen around him, because war is so very cool. He sucks! You're meant to hate him.

A lot of them were uncritical of war, it was mostly just some cool thing that happened in the past to them, despite there being survivors of the last war all around them. Incidentally, a lot of them took up Gunpla without ever understanding the themes the show was trying to say (wow, cool robot!).

They were kids (who've never known war but grew up in the shadow of it) who'd obsess over military weapons, and roleplay military units/battles. There was a ton of military equipment left all over Japan after WW2, and they'd go around collecting it, thinking it to be the coolest thing.

Its pretty obvious what War in the Pocket is trying to say, but there is a bit of context lost in translation. It is specifically about the military otaku subculture that existed in Japan mostly in the 70s-90s.

I don't think anyone truly understands newtypes honestly. They're very much channeling Star Wars jedi powers from the original Star Wars, when it was just weird unexplained magic stuff, before Empire tried to explain anything about it. Gundam came out right between those two films, so it tracks.

I'm just bummed out about the ban because I really like Flapple. Its one of my favorite ways to sneak more damage onto the board, it has some neat synergies with Zoroark and Ditto Prism Star, and its part of an evolution line with a lot of great options available. I think they hit the wrong card.

The fact that TPC printed a nerfed version of Forest of Giant Plants tells me that they want this kind of effect to be a part of Grass's identity, so I imagine they're hesitant about banning it so soon. But I don't think they nerfed it enough, and I guarantee it'll cause more problems eventually.

Dang, I wish they banned Jumpluff instead, that would kill this infinite draw engine while leaving all of the cool cards in the format. I like Flapple!

The old Eelektrik has never been able to do that with either Flash Energy or Speed Energy. Its because Special Energy has no type except only when attached to a Pokemon.

The payoff is SO GOOD, but without the context of the original I can imagine it comes across as very confusing.

The finale was super good, but its emotional payoff is largely reliant on the viewer having seen the original series. As it turns out, the series is not just an alternate history but a surprise sequel to the original series (we did not learn this until episode 9).

I'm sure part of the reason is that many video game websites got gutted in the last year and there's just not as many people and publications out there able to write a review for it.
