We just kicked off a citizen science project in @bocas-news.bsky.social where we’re teaming up with retired + active medical doctors to help interpret complex paleopathological cases while having fun. Our 1st session of the Ärtze-Konsil was great ✨🦴🧬 #citizenscience #paleopathology #bioarchaeology

This morning I sampled some African elephant material from the amazing collection of #museumkoenig @leibnizlib.bsky.social. I received the warmest welcome from Dr. Decher and his team, and I left a little sketch behind in their guest book. I hope this is the start of a long lasting collaboration.

This week we are in the lab with the 2nd cohort of our Grundlagen Archäologische Naturwissenschaften module. In a week-long block seminar students learn to extract collagen, interpret isotopes and basic notions in osteoarchaeology and skeletal anatomy. It's an intense 30hrs but I love it!

Absolutely blown away by the beautiful exhibition of the Archaeology Museum of Luxembourg city. The display and the explanation were just right and not overwhelming. I loved the concept of the 8 floors going from Prehistory to Present. Highly recommend!

Lovely to see Shinya again and share a Brauhaus experience. Fermented millet drinks were not available but we found a good replacement. 🍻 #BoCAS #debatesinArchaeoSciences

The BA students of the Einführung in die Archäologischen Naturwissenschaften have completed 30hrs in our BoCAS labs learning how to extract collagen for isotopic analysis + learning the ropes in skeletal anatomy and sex and age-at-death estimation. We are very proud of this cohort!

Birth is hard work for both - the baby's skull and the mother's pelvis. Several traits are discussed as parturition scars in adult skeletons, but @LukWaltenberger shows us this Friday which of them are reliable proxies for parity. Join us at 16PM in Römerstraße HS2 or online!

Myself and colleagues from the @IAK_Bonn and beyond were invited as panelists at the Opening ceremony of the Academic Year 2023/2024 @UniBonn. The topic was "The Wonders of Science: a high-tech dig into the past in search of clues". Really fun!
