Watching football will only make me happy when the players stop suffering dementia in their late 30's and 40's. It's as bad as ancient Rome and its gladiators. Ours don't die on the field but they suffer and their loved ones suffer with them for years and years after they play.

Maybe Donald should quit complaining and instead let them know how to do it. If he's got the answer, he definitely should share it.

This appears to represent not money spent but applications filed. Can you clarify what you're saying here? I'm thinking, "Of course, Texas has more applications; they resisted for so long and have finally found out that the ACA is good. Californians were in it from the beginning." Say more, please.

A piece dated Dec 11, likely in today's Magazine seeks an end to light at night. I thought this inspired Marc's post. No one seems to have made this connection. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/int...

I nominate Marc Elias. The man never stops and, to boot, he stays optimistic. I can't do either but I sure do admire him for being able to do so.

No. What we need to do is push this line forward. Tell your Trump-seduced GOP state legislators to join the National Interstate Popular Vote Compact. That's a right response to Trump's post.
December 9, 2024 at 11:45 PM
This is the exact moment to contact your GOP state legislators to be sure they know they can achieve what Trump says he wants by enacting the National Interstate Popular Vote Compact.
December 9, 2024 at 11:43 PM
Don't tell that to your GOP state legislators. Tell them the correct response to Trump's post is to enact the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact.
December 9, 2024 at 11:41 PM
Don't tell them, for pete's sake! Instead, tell them the answer is the National Popular Vote Compact.
December 9, 2024 at 11:38 PM
It seems to me this would be a perfect time to contact your Republican State Legislators to be sure they know they can secure the popular vote by approving the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact.

Just looked this up for a friend. Voter turnout was 64% of eligible voters, Trump won 49.9% of that turnout for about 34% of all eligible voters. Makes me feel a little better, but not much.

This article does a great job of explaining what they term the software (narrative) of autocracy. It does not tell us how to respond, but explains what Trump voters respond to. Article doesn’t discuss the racism element much, but you can surmise how the other narratives lets people distance from it.

To dismantle the machinery of autocracy, you first need to understand how it works.

You can't just join the DNC. You could become a member by becoming active in your State Democratic Party. Look up the Democratic National Committee on Wikipedia to see a list of who the members are. You could be one though not right out of the gate. It requires active engagement, often over years.

And, everyone knows 80 yr olds don't count, amiright? That gives me one year here to actually count. I'd better get going!

It's not the MAGA/fascist base to which the ads would be targeted. Rather it's those who voted for Trump who aren't in anyone's base -- they just knew "The Apprentice" star and were upset by the price of eggs and gas. They need sustained and pointed attention sooner rather than later.

D's should start advertising now, telling Americans what's up right now. Too few paid attention before they voted; no reason to think they are being attentive now. An ad starting with "Grab 'em . . ." and setting out the predation records of his would-be appointees could get attention.

Do you suppose the suits at NBC think Mika and Joe's being nice will stop him from attacking MSNBC? Doubtful.
November 24, 2024 at 5:16 PM
Tell it to Mika and Joe! It's not just legislators who need this warning. The media can also fall victim to their own misguided view of their responsibilities.

A better way to say "You're wrong. You're stupid. You're ...ist"?
How about, "You're misled. You've been seduced. You're dangerous to our Democracy"? With both these being true, it's hard to "approach" these people in any rational way.

Real person here. Left Twitter the day Musk bought it. Won't have anything to do with it, even under a new name. Not going back.
November 24, 2024 at 2:25 PM
Is NBC considering selling? Please say where you heard this "fact" about Musk. I, personally, haven't discussed it because this is the first I'm hearing it.
