How do you accidentally make a plot twist? It was supposed to be simple murder mystery and now I need to plot carefully so the reveal won't be obvious or anticlimactic.

I thought I was going in circles, but surprise, it was a downward spiral.

Thank you for this share 💚Lately, I've been writing quite a few short stories about various OCs but I used to be deep into #DragonAge fanfics.
Recently, that resulted in a drabble about the Iron Bull set sometime during #DragonAgeInquisition

The Iron Bull + Hot Chocolate Lazy drops of rain hit the tavern roof before tumbling down. Drip dropping heavily and steadily. A constant rhythm discouraging adventures and inviting the weary to pause. To savour warmly lit rooms, crackling fires and lowly rumbling conversations. The best spot was at the courtyard window, with a grandious view of the unspectacularly mundane weather. Gloriously boring. The perfect excuse to bother the innkeep for a sweet treat. The steaming mug firmly clasped within his hands, the Iron Bull let his gaze wander from the patrons to the window and beyond. He took a generous sip, sighed, and then continued to do nothing.

this is an excerpt from a short story about an astronaut coming back to earth. i wanted to communicate the sense of alienation (pun intended) one would feel coming back to earth after being in space for so long. i’m still proud of it ✨
Floating, floating, floating. In space, your feet never stick to the floor. You’re never grounded, on your own—you need aids to do that for you. It is empty. All of it is empty. And vast. And same-looking—black, black as the blackest night in the brightest city. Silent. It is utterly, completely, painstakingly silent. The novelty of being in space wears off. The importance of the mission becomes hazy. The days fall to meaninglessness. Floating, floating, floating. Keep yourself grounded. Humans are not made for space. Humans are not made to be alone. It’s the sharpest of double-edged swords: the majestic, cosmic beauty of space, with its unique visions and experiences that only truly a handful of people get to say they’ve lived and seen in their meagre lifetimes; and nobody to share it with. Even back on Earth, how can one explain what it feels to see a meteor shower up close? To see brightness after months of pure physical darkness? To be, walk, live on the moon? To be able to make out the surfaces of celestial bodies like somebody back on Earth might be able to make out the lines on the palm of their hands? How is one supposed to go back to normalcy when they have lived so much in so little time? When their new normalcy is everyone’s perpetual oddity? Humans are not made for space. He wanted—no, needed to share that normalcy with somebody who would have found it just as normal as he did. Somebody who was curious about everything—and excited about everything. Somebody with no preconceptions and without a previous life for those preconceptions to exist. Somebody with a blank slate. For them—and for him. Humans are not made to be alone. His house is weird. The streets are weird. His country is weird. There is gravity. It weirds him out, too. He does mundane things to keep himself grounded—reading, watching, showering. The water falls down on him. There is gravity. He really prefers looking at nature; listening to the birds; feeling the rain. These simple gestures keep him grounded the most. He misses floating. He stands up on the sofa. He takes a deep breath. He jumps. Floating, floating, floating.

This was for a list from last year, the prompt was "growth". The OC was the first DnD oc I ever made and she's still very near and dear to my heart 🥹❤️ we both learned so much over the last years
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, they say. Well, they're liars. What doesn't kill you keeps on hurting most of the time. You feel it in your legs, every step. In your heart, every word. And in your mind, every breath. They cut you so deep it will never heal. Not entirely for sure. But with time it might at least close some of the flesh. Stop the blood from cascading, cease the stream of tears. With the right people at your side the hurting might dampen until it's a dull ache at the end of the day. What didn't kill you didn't make you stronger. It taught you fear and anger, lashing out in distrust, cutting first, running faster. But you're done running. You're done cutting. You're tired and bruised and you want to rest. Lie down with those you trust and mend the angry wound inside your heart. Learn again what it means to love. What it means to belong. Growth is what you need. What you want and what you're doing. You're growing into someone that one day might be you. And you can't wait to see the day you can meet yourself.

Of course, their devotion to science comes at the expense of their socialisation in other areas of life, but it doesn't seem to bother them too much? And there are also a few friends who stay by their side regardless, so it’s not like they are a complete recluse, you know. Well, also, at the beginning of the story, they get a child by chance.... Nothing bad can come from such an addition to your life, right? Those are a new kind of radeas, which were first documented by Elliot during one of their research trips – the same trip during which they met Kayleigh, actually. The main feature of radeas’ genus is that they have a one collective root system (for the whole field of flowers) that forms vast underground plexuses. So on the surface, the radea colonies usually look like a large flower field, but underground there is a body mass of the roots that occupies all the available space. Fumish radeas specifically have some unique features: they spread evaporations around their residential area. These fumes reflect light in such a way, that the entire field from afar seems almost invisible, blending seamlessly with the surroundings. Radeas have increased resistance to various harmful substances, and therefore survive without much problems on polluted water and soil... These four characters are present in all parts, although with different levels of presence: Kayleigh doesn't do much in Anthora, but does A LOT in Alta-Costar. The whole project started as a story about her and Lyx, but at this point I would consider it more of Eli's story, told through Vega's narration.
