While I agree, I wonder if societies may need to look harder at membership benefits to be attractive too. Where institutional publishing agreements already cover journal access and page charges, tangible 'benefits' (beyond group inclusion) for folk paying full membership can be limited no?

Agree, this is depressing.

Is it time to just end all journals and academic publishers? Revolution over evolution? Not saying it is, but I am wondering...PCI model or biorxiv with peer review?
