En tiempos cuando se necesita creer en la esperanza, 58 mujeres participaron en tres talleres simultáneos de diálogo del Centro Nansen, en colaboración con ICARE, INACAP y Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.

Necesitamos educación cívica, versión 2.0. Las normas no son lo único importante. La capacidad de escucha, empatía y respeto se instala desde la educación temprana, y su fruto es una ciudadanía realmente participativa y dialogante.

Not everything we keep silent about our traumas and crises needs to earn merit to be heard. Memories and emotions deserve their place, like books in a library. At the right time, they help us to learn, remember, and even open paths to healing, as individuals, and as a nation.

It was the rainy season in Darfur.
I remember driving back to Kalma Camp after a weekend. Shallow lakes reflected the open sky. I watched cranes landing on the water’s surface with effortless precision. Nearby, donkeys sought shelter against a small house, soaked but patiently enduring the rain.

My father would have been 96 years old this week, but not quite. He was born in April 1928, but he was registered months later when his parents took the train from the nitrate mine where he was born in the Chilean desert to the nearest civil registry office.

Insisting on the path of dialogue is an act of resistance, perhaps even revolutionary. Listening does not mean accepting the unacceptable or justifying the unjustifiable, but seeking a point of convergence, again and again, until it is found. The alternative to bridges is living in separate worlds.
