You can make a case that while it was certainly flawed and there are many misguided norms that needed to evolve, there was a stabilizing component to a world where all Americans watched the same 3 channels for 6 hours a day.

1) bring jobs back so Americans don't need to buy imports.
2) Make tons of money tariffing the stuff that Americans supposedly will no longer need because they make it themselves now.

I mean, you figure that fascists should at least maintain a highly professional sense of order- sure, people "disappear", but the trains should run on time, etc.! Very disillusioning to see zero upside wrt the destruction of the institutions of liberal democracy. Would not recommend. 0 stars.

Paul, happy to see you have a full life away from all the hard work. I downloaded the audiobook, discovered the podcasts afterwards - binged them first...assumed the book might be redundant - but appreciated the edits and updates that made it completely worthwhile. (In case anyone is on the fence!)

personal issues have worked to prevent passing nominees previously. lack of qualifications usually prevent nominees from reaching this point. I don't think anything stops this except enough Americans voting to rid yourselves of the of the complicit elected public servants that make this inevitable.

there's only so many people you can employ to gather up and deport immigrants AND hunt for draft dodgers. if they intend to do all the deportations there's already no one left to manage normal public safety, so don't fret....
