Potential for impacts on K-12 education doesn’t equate to actual hard data, and makes no difference to families with children who are already of school age. Oregon’s schools have a problem with student outcomes and truancy. PFA in one county will not fix that systemic issue.

Good schools is also an important factor in where families choose to go to. Oregon and especially Portland’s schools have much catching up to do compared to states like Mass, and rank near the bottom nationally.

I have my reservations. Lot of end vote by mail signs when they were collecting signatures. And the leader of the no tax Oregon movement represents much of YamCo.

I have my doubts - YamCo is very conservative.

Any attempt by Trimet to enter Yamhill county is going to be met with huge opposition from YamCo residents. A big slogan from a campaign for county commissioners was keeping Metro out of Yamhill County.

According to /r/PortlandOR, the response to this has been an absolute crashout and “going berserk”.

We shall see. I can see a reason why that post was made. Suspect a big theme of state elections next year will be taxes and government spending, with No Tax Oregon being insanely successful. Same for possible initiatives like 10 year sunsets on taxes and 2/3 required to pass taxes by ballot measure

Who frankly lacks name recognition or the infrastructure to run a campaign for statewide office. Dem Socialists also have a perception problem amongst suburban and rural voters.
December 26, 2025 at 2:17 AM
The issue is if a Portland progressive could appeal to independents in the suburbs and the rest of the state.
December 25, 2025 at 10:06 PM
It’s a good way to pander to independents who live outside the PDX Metro area.

I’ve lived in Yamhill county for a bit. The Metro area is just a quick drive up 99W but it feels like a different state entirely.
December 25, 2025 at 8:29 PM
I’m not opposed to PFA, SHS, etc but I do maintain a large degree of skepticism as to if they will be successful or not. But I come from a childhood of countless stories of government corruption from the home country.

My point still stands that a newcomer to the political scene in this state has no chance against the incumbent in a primary.
December 25, 2025 at 8:09 PM
Sometimes I wish this city and the people in it took themselves just a little more seriously.
December 25, 2025 at 9:58 AM
I have my doubts about the ability of a relative unknown. The DSA aligned PDX councilors would have a better shot having established connections, fundraising/volunteer networks and name recognition.

Conservatives in Portland and especially outside it DGAF. They see the gas tax as the ultimate in to scare Dems back to center right and to possibly score some seats in Washington and Clackamas counties.

That and PFA plus PEACOCK also seem to be a rallying call for MultCo conservatives.
