"Why I quit $ProgrammingLanguage"

Nobody cares. Save yourself the trouble and just move on. A programming language is just a tool, it's not your identity, employer or religion. And such articles are always cringe, you'll be sorry for writing it, especially when you "come back".

I found out from LinkedIn that Oleg Pyzhcov (oleg-py) may have died in his apartment in Sep 2022.

I knew him as a very talented developer, a prolific Monix and Scala contributor, a kind and helpful person and a friend. He was too young.

#Scala has been the #1 FP language for some time. But this particular screenshot from plrank.com doesn't say the quiet part out loud — in these rankings Scala is no longer in the top 20 languages, a list that contains Dart, Ruby, Lua and VBA.

Turning off your Watch History on YouTube improves the experience, as their suggestions are hardly based on your interests. Test it:
‣ Clear your history
‣ Only watch a specific genre for 1–2 days
‣ Notice YT insert politics / celeb gossip / rage bait slop in your suggestions.

Coming from #Scala#Kotlin has somewhat odd restrictions in the type system. E.g., while it supports declaration-site variance, it doesn't support any annotations to make incompatible methods sound, so you either go with @/UnsafeVariance, or with extension methods.

Yesterday, Romania had presidential elections. We were close to fascism, but the moderate pro-EU candidate won. There has been a lot of tension and uncertainty, but around two hours before voting ended, rainbows after the storm happened, as a sign that things will be alright.

RIP Pope Francis 🙏

His final speech from yesterday highlights what Christianity is about: love and compassion for the marginalized, for the poor, for the starving, for the injured and the displaced, for the victims of war. Love as a guiding principle, not hate.

Christ is risen!

This is one of those rare occasions when Orthodox Easter falls on in the same Sunday as Catholic Easter (Julian vs Gregorian calendars).

Happy Easter everyone!

In 2020, #GitHub removed all EU cookie banners, saying they no longer need them, as they don't need to track visitors:

Since 2022, they've reverted the policy due to having to serve ads and do spyware shit:

You don't use such language unless you plan to transmit people's data to third parties without the user's knowledge.

Went to our office to get my picture taken for a promo material (having a presentation). I was wearing a t-shirt, as I'm a programmer and it's important for my street cred. And because this is a corporate photo, our photographer colleague had to lend me his shirt 🥲
