We don’t need be measured in our tone when calling out assaults on pluralistic democracy.

I think this points to a tendency towards many smaller concessions in the face of an overwhelming onslaught on truth, but also to an unwillingness to say that you didn’t and don’t have to be at all radical to feel that what Kirk said and did was pretty evil.

There are some smart people with really ugly goals in this administration. Donald Trump isn’t one of them. He’s a simple person with simple goals who listens to the loudest, meanest voice in the room.

He did it for the same reasons a kid takes another kid’s lunch, because he wanted to and he thought he could get away with it.

I still think NPR is probably the best possible option of its size for accurate, serious news that acknowledges to the best of its ability the rapidly right-sliding world we live in in the US.

Perhaps charitably I think a lot of this is due to pressure exerted by the admin using their federal funding, as well as to the inertia inherent to a large conventional news org. But it’s still a disappointing thing to notice from the public radio I grew up on. That said! ->
