I used to think your avatar was a squirrel instead of a beaver. When I learned that, I immediately remembered a character named Bobby Beaver from a Dirk & Guido skit.

I find wings harder to draw well than even hands 😵‍💫

I don't draw birds very often. I always need to use references.

I've also used Adobe Flash when I was teaching myself animation back in college, as well as Adobe Illustrator for other work-related needs.

I always mean to use a simpler style, but then I get caught up in the finer details and end up overdoing it half the time.

That’s how I handle things. I try to stay on model in terms of overall proportions, but I also try to apply my own style when it comes to rendering.
The exception being whenever I’m not given any reference images to work from. Then I just do what feels most appropriate.

I think we can all agree as artists that anatomy is tricky, regardless of which part of the body you're trying to draw.

I find fingers and hands tricky regardless.
Interlacing fingers just makes it trickier.
