Though I also don't necessarily think that a speed pedelec should necessarily be treated the same as this, which is why I like the Dutch approach (allowing a helmet that looks more like a bicycle helmet than a motorcycle helmet, and not requiring riders to pass a separate motorbike test)

I don't know if that was the reason, but there was the true story of the British officer who escaped *in full uniform* by pretending to be a Bulgarian named I. Bugaroff.

He was caught at the last moment but escaped again, this time successfully, by pretending to be a (civilian?) Swedish sailor.

Pretty sure Bobson Dugnutt was a fake name made up for a SNES game.

The upper class associations go back to the English Civil War, when the Royalist commander Prince Rupert had a white poodle that was believed to be a demon.

And AIUI back then there were dovecotes like this one from near the ancient city of Maresha in Israel, where pigeons were encouraged to nest so they could be eaten and their dung used as fertilizer.

If you see this, quote a time travel movie that's not Back To The Future.

And other countries' football culture evolved similarly- the Dutch may still tell this sort of joke, but I don't think you'd see a banner like this one from their Euro 1988 semi against hosts West Germany today.

It looks like it's "No Dictators" in Spain and Sweden (no event in Denmark, Norway or Belgium), but still "No Kings" in the Netherlands.

This is what Bernard Arnault, the richest man in France, drove around Paris when he was worried about assassins. It's a GTi with a custom luxury interior and uprated brakes and suspension to cope with the half ton of armour.

The Netherlands (not Holland unless you're talking about two out of the 12 provinces).

There's also the sign at Abbey Road DLR station (which is on the other side of London).

I think they were originally bred as gundogs- poodle is related to puddle, as they would jump into water to retrieve birds their owner had shot.

But they've been associated with the aristocracy since the English Civil War and Prince Rupert's allegedly-demonic white poodle.
