Oh, that's something I totally did as a kid on a camping trip- "fell" into the water on purpose to disguise the evidence of an accident. (The outhouses were scary, OK?)

A nickel for your thoughts? A dime? A quarter? Thought inflation is out of hand!

I think that in the US, a disproportionately large number of people claim to be "middle class." For those of us who have less money, it's an aspirational thing, as we don't want to call ourselves "poor." For those with more money, they "round themselves down" to make themselves sound relatable!

In a better timeline, Elizabeth Warren would be president.

It took me a bit to figure out where the *actual* link for the replies was- I had to click near the *top* of the post- not the middle, that is usually a link to something else. I personally like this design change. The trouble with intuitive design is the same things aren't intuitive to everybody.

To be fair, as a new user of Bluesky, when I saw the speech balloon logo with a number next to it, I would click on it to see what they were saying- and it surprised me that that wasn't the button for seeing what people were saying but for replying without looking at other people's replies.

Some politicians rail against the thought that somebody undeserving *might* get benefits, and would rather cut off 10 people in true need than allow 1 "cheater" to get a little something. Why can't we err on the side of compassion?

My grandmother became eligible for SNAP benefits the last couple years of her life. She worked hard for her whole life, but lived long enough for medical expenses to drain her savings. Those SNAP benefits were very helpful. (I was her caregiver during that time and did the shopping.)

I love Lotte Reiniger! A good bit of work was available to watch on YouTube, last I checked.

Hey look- avocado toast is an option! And this is in southern California, so the avocados are probably really good. Avocado sandwich, coffee, slice of apple pie! Hoagy Carmichael wrote "Two Sleepy People," one of my favorite songs- tho I particularly love Fats Waller's cover.

What comic is this?
May 28, 2025 at 5:03 PM
Yes, pigeons and doves "coo," and also groom one another with their bills (beaks.) It's also fun to watch a male pigeon puff out its feathers, spread out its tail like a mini peacock, while cooing in particular sort of way in its attempt to impress a female.

I didn't know about the film, but I did know that it's what pigeons do when they're flirting (and can be used metaphorically for other creatures' flirting)

The only Dutch stereotype I had heard of was basically "stingy with money"- the reason why "going Dutch" was slang for evenly splitting the cost of a meal.
