By comparison, here are stills from that Guatemala game, and tonight's Ecuador game, to show the difference in the #CanMNT's press, and how they were much more conservative and cautious down a player

It made a big difference!

For context, enjoy this one minute stretch of the #CanMNT showing incredible discipline without the ball, as they balanced pressing up in a 4-2-3 and sitting back in a 4-4-1

The #CanMNT XI is out for their friendly vs. Ecuador

Looks like:

Sigur-Waterman-Miller-Laryea
Eustáquio-Koné
Buchanan-Ahmed
Oluwaseyi-J.David

As expected, a strong team for a stiff test. Big challenge to break down this🇪🇨 low block

Cornelius has a knock, Larin is injured, Jones is ineligible

Given Ecuador's defensive excellence, and then Venezuela's struggles (they've brought a VERY young team to this camp as they start a generational shift), I spitballed 2 #CanMNT lineups that we could see this window - I feel pretty confident about the Ecuador one, but curious to see about Venezuela

Even in a snowstorm, Atlético Ottawa didn't stop their wing backs from flying up - they also never stopped dribbling or playing 1-2s, either

I dove into how they stayed true to their game model while adapting to the snowy conditions in the #CanPL final, for the CPL👇

Great night at Swangard Stadium 🫡

2 big goals: A) Juventus need to create the chances for David so he shoots more regularly, and B) David needs to adjust his movement to find the looks he's lived off of so far in his career

The good news? Juventus's offence as a whole has been mid, so things can only get better for everyone
October 31, 2025 at 12:11 AM
For comparison sake, here's the shots he's taken so far this year, and the last 75 shots he took in 2024-2025 with Lille

As seen here's not only is he not taking a lot of shots, but he's struggling to get them on target. And a big reason is the low blocks Juventus keep facing

The #CanWNT/#CanXNT XI is out for tonight's match vs. the Netherlands

Looks like:
D'Angelo
Riviere-J Rose-Zadorsky-Lawrence
Fleming-Regan-Grosso-Sonis
Leon-Huitema

Appears Casey Stoney is running back that sort of 442 OOP, one that turns into the more typical 4-2-3-1/back 3 in possession

Dominant performance from #VWFC to kick off their playoff campaign, as they pick up a 3-0 win over FC Dallas, who didn’t even have a shot

After their loss to Dallas last week, the tone has been set for the ‘Caps in this series - game #2 goes next Saturday

BC Place was a vibe today, too

The #CanWNT/#CanXNT XI is out for their clash vs. Switzerland

Looks like:
Sheridan
Riviere-J Rose-Zadorsky-Carle
Fleming-Regan
Sonis-Grosso-Smith
Leon

Riviere gets rewarded for good form, while we see more Regan/Fleming in midfield. Grosso gets to play the #10, and we'll get a run for Smith

Lastly, we know Brian Wright can sometimes miss a lot of big chances - but that's a credit to his ability to get on the end of such opportunities

Look at his xG per shot (0.31)... and his touches in the box

Just will need to finish those chances, as Forge missed a #9 who could do that last year

Sam Salter. What a campaign. Bonkers numbers across the board

He benefitted from Ottawa's high-flying attack, but he knew where to be, and his numbers show that

Worth noting, he never went more than 2 games without scoring - and he enters the playoffs having not scored in his last 2
October 22, 2025 at 6:08 PM
Tobias Warschewski had a fantastic playoffs last year for Cavalry - can he continue that this year?

He's had a weird season - had a lot of shots and carries, but not a lot of high-quality looks. But his numbers are similar to his 14 goal season in 2024

Got to get him closer to goal, really!
October 22, 2025 at 6:08 PM
On the other side, though, Tiago Coimbra has been fantastic at regularly generating high-quality looks - his biggest worry has been availability. In particular, he's done a fantastic job of creating first-timed finishing opportunities for himself - something to watch out for
October 22, 2025 at 6:08 PM
To start with the guys playing tonight - Julian Altobelli has been fantastic for York United, and is one of the best in the league at finishing high quality chances, but he has a LOT of shot volume. So making sure he gets big chances will be the key for York

The #CanMNT XI is out for tonight's friendly vs. 🇨🇴

Looks like:

Sigur-LDF-Cornelius-Laryea
Eustáquio-Koné

4 changes from 🇦🇺 for a big test. Looks close to a first-choice XI (with what's available), having Eustáquio back in will be key, in particular

Remarkable - the last place #CanPL side, Vancouver FC, is officially heading to the Concacaf Champions Cup!

There will now be 3 CPL teams in next year’s CCC - and 2 teams from the Lower Mainland with #VWFC back in a 4th straight tournament. Going to be fun 👀

Imagine seeing this months ago…

Looks like:

Sigur-Waterman-Cornelius-Laryea

J. David-Larin

We see a quartet of former #CFMTL players get a start, which is exciting

As for the team, big chance for Larin up front - not many other surprises

Introducing the #CanPL’s newest team… FC Supra Du Québec!

Love the logo, I dig the name, and I’m looking forward to see the project (one where they’ll be a LOT of Québecois talent on display based on today’s comments)

Long overdue to have a CPL team in QC 🫡

Was super cool to be out at Royal Athletic Park this weekend to see Pacific FC host Vancouver FC in the Salish Sea Derby

Fantastic to see a historic venue packed for a #CanPL game - you could see what that meant for players on both sides

By comparison, here's how they pressed vs. Romania - direct, and aggressively. Marsch-ball. What we've gotten used to seeing from the #CanMNT

Interesting to see the differences from game-to-game
