Literally the other day was talking to someone in the field who told me that a solution architect proudly said that their diagrams are so refined and complicated that engineers wouldn't understand it.

That's not a dig at the engineer in my opinion.

Not sure if there is any alternatieve model with the average attention span of our era.. 😅

I am usually more interested in other experiences, their genuine honest own view on how things didn't go the way they wanted them to go.

And just like a waterfall: If you view it from the outside it looks magical.

Standing under one is a completely different story. It might be very painful and triggering.

There is a duality to that view though: While you approach things out of joyfulness and curiosity others might not. Ideas might come to you easily, and you may experience the same way you experience any thing abundant.

Yeah they didn't do a very good job in that front indeed.
I believe Poweplatform(Power apps/PowrBI) has similar functionality with familiar interface for those cases. But they are exhaustive and over parameterized it's usually easier to go for a sheet or any other mechanism, ie:Pandas or such.
