We can see and learn from similar scenarios in Europe. It's nothing shockingly surprising.

Preventing war to spread and react sooner is always a better strategy than waiting for something to magically happen.

The same indeed applies in smaller extent to Europe.

Only exception to above would be catastrophic defeat of UA (which doesn't seem to happen). That would embolden China in Taiwan and (with delay) Russia in Baltics.

It would cost collective West much more money and lives (!) then.

Let's be cynical then.
If we count money only, you can say UA is decimating USA's top enemy for tiny fraction of DOD budget.
For USA it's strategic geopolitical win regardless of outcome of the war. Russia's defeat would also deter China.

I am not saying it doesn't work at all. I am from Czechia and we have very good gun laws. I can be done without severe bans.
My main point was to come with something that can have bipartisan support and make it through in US.

Banning things almost never yields expected results and this one particularly won't ever get accepted in US anyway.

Be smart and improve stuff that can make it in.

For example, all gun owners should be registered and pass mental health check regularly and must have clear criminal record.
