You don’t need to record on tape. You don’t need vintage gear. You don’t need to go DAWless. Your magnum opus could probably be made on whatever you’re reading this on. Learn to use the tools you have. Be creative. Be bold.

(This is a reminder for myself as much as anything)

One of the most important epiphanies I’ve had in my musical life is that my favorite artists primarily used the tools of their time and pushed them to their limits. Using the same tools as those artists may allow you to recreate their sounds, but not the spirit with which those sounds were created.

The state of the music industry and the world in general has me thinking about what my ideal future music platform would look like—basically like bandcamp but decentralized, social, and built with an ethos of sustainability rather than endless growth for shareholders
