Mad online about land use. D.C. policy boss @ggwash.org, Ward 1 Dems chair, Park View resident—in no order. Not paid to tweet, so DM me gossip. It’s only life; there is no real decay. Views mine (I wouldn’t front the scene if you paid me).
OK well none of you did me a solid and imo it’s not worth it but I enjoyed the hell out of it, lmk if you want the whole thing

VIVRE EN VILLE EN ENGLISH. Adam is so cool. His organization is so cool. I am really excited that this exists, and very grateful that there is writing about housing like this out in the world, regardless of language:

The current bylaws (drive.google.com/file/d/160Xp...) require a convention to be held by the third Saturday in May. It's not like the bylaws are really *followed*, but, even so, there is zero reason that the Ward 1 Dems need to hold a convention the day of the dang World Pride Parade.

Delighted to come home last night after this thread to notice from OTR about D.C.'s new marginal property tax rates!!! This is something I and others worked on in the budget last year: increasing taxes on properties valued at $2.5 mil+. The ~*policy innovation*~ was moving away from a flat rate.

Personally, I don't think that there's really any message that can get the opposition to turn it down, and getting the opposition to turn it down shouldn't be the goal, anyhow.

Michael T. Danielson's The Politics of Exclusion is about the suburbs (bc 1976) and also nothing in it is untrue now, anywhere. "Rezoning for higher density to build cheaper housing" is a weird thing to advocate for and doesn't have a normally legible constituency!

Speaking of Clebeland, there is currently a sinkhole swallowing a barrel cone at the end of my street, just as there was when I lived on W. 50th in 2017.

And, justification for big swings in both charging people to drive *and* redesigning roads to slow down people who, in this hypothetical, still need to or prefer to drive:
