Hi! I’m Alex, a Kubernetes-focused gremlin from the tropical island of Mauritius. I do Cloud Native stuff for work, and for my not-yet-overengineered homelab. I’m also an […]

I am really happy to have organised and hosted and spoken at the @CloudNativeMauritius meetup today, our last get-together of the year!

With some 10 people, 2 of whom joined remotely, it was a fun event with a lot of discussions. I finally got to present on […]

I feel a bit bad. Not too bad. But a bit bad nonetheless

With the ongoing RAM prices, may I make a gentle recommendation? Rewrite it in Rust. All of it. Leave no Python application alive.

Pictures not mine (obviously). My talk.
I understand it's impossible to get an actually good picture of me. Many have tried and failed.

Finally, I was just in time to see the second A380 landing of the day!
Lightly inconvenienced by the fencing which I probably need to learn to edit out :P

Special mention for this image which is out really far, just a blip to the human eye. My phone would never have dreamed of a picture like this.

At 7km away, the lighthouse sits on a coral island and dates back to the British in the 1860s. The installment dates […]

Afterwards went to Mahebourg for lunch and got pictures at the waterfront.

Fourth picture is from my Nothing 1 phone, at 50MP, for comparison

Gave a talk at the Frontend community's annual beach meetup and seized the opportunity to try out my first proper camera (fujifilm sf100fs finepix 11MP 14x zoom)

Here's the meetup pictures

A friend of mine was asking an LLM about me. It appears that it was unable to read my blogposts, with "access denied". I assume this is Anubis's doing?

It's pretty cool and never expected an LLM to hit a blockade like that :P

Out of curiosity, I checked how many unwraps are in one of by projects. At least it's not like they will ever be reached, right?

I got a split keyboard!! A friend on Discord sent this all the way from the Netherlands :3
It's a lot of fun! Main downsides being I have to relearn to type, and I cannot hide my passwords page under my keyboard anymore.

I have made a ton of progress on KRaft, my cloud platform in a box. Yet every time I close one issue, it seems another 3 take its place.

Who keeps creating these issues??!!?
(me, it's me)

I think the trend of using IPv6 is suffering every step of the way. Couldn't install a package on my VPS with a v6 address because the local mirror's AAAA record points to the link local address 🫠

Woah, Mauritius Telecom to give out IPv6 addresses on home plans by next year!

And I didn't even have to harass them for it!

Ah yes, it is currently 5:33pm and the metro will be here at 7:21pm.
When it is really 9am and the metro is coming in 5 minutes.

Fun fact too! There are 4 openSUSE mirrors in the entire African continent! And, if I recall correctly, Ish manages three - the 2 MU and 1 ZA mirror.

Internet connection is down - it looks like the fiber optic cable is broken somewhere.
So to keep the network connection running across the house, my phone is connected to the WAN port of my main router through ethernet, thanks to a USB-C hub.

My three homelab K3s nodes are dead. But they are dead in different ways. And I find that somewhat amusing.

I'm at the Frontend meetup today, and we started off with Houzair explaining why the perfect compression algorithm doesn't exist.
That was fascinating from a theoretical perspective but I needed more coffee this morning

Oh wow, that's 50TB of SAS SSD storage for only 6k USD making around 8.3GB/$

Hardware abroad is so cheap 👀

I think this is a new record! 3 community groups clashing on the same Saturday. The shortage of Saturdays in a month is getting critical...
