Writer, designer, would-be footballer. she/her. On Bunurong land, voted YES. Debut novel THOROUGHLY DISENCHANTED won the Aurealis Award for Best Fantasy Novel 2024.
My reading list trended more fantasy in October, not surprising after Conflux at the start of the month. Standouts were Freya Marske's latest Cinder House, and The Rook from Dan O'Malley.

What a lovely thread! Here's my comfort read shelf. Lots of crossover with other mentions but ones I don't think I've seen include In Other Lands, Swordcrossed, Yield Under Great Persuasion, Waiting for the Flood.

Got to see the touring Archibald Prize exhibition at Geelong last night. They were all excellent but this one was my fave.

I'm on my way to #conflux19

It's my first sci-fi and fantasy con! Sorry #romancelandia it's not you, it's me—I'm looking to broaden my happy endings. This could work out for both of us, though.

15 books read in September. Special call out to the two new Melbourne-set romances, After the Siren (queer footy!) from @darcygreenwrites.bsky.social and In The Long Run (runners and dogs and french pastries!) from Emma Mugglestone.

In Yarraville today... it rained. Captain relished the wet conditions on his morning walk—puddles! wet bushes! shakes!—but was less enthused about the drying-off aftermath.

In Yarraville today… a plethora of puppies celebrate the start of Spring.

My WIP is about a magical bookshop (where you'll always find the book you need, even if it's not the one you're looking for) and I got @greenleejw.bsky.social to draw me up a floorplan to help with vibe.

I've never really got into audiobooks but may have found the secret: old faves. Listening to Boyfriend Material gave me quite a diff perspective on Oliver's character. Also I'm re-reading the Saint of Steel and @tkingfisher.com could the gnoles PLEASE get a book of their own?

The Bulldogs AFLW shouted me a coffee this morning. Their men’s season may be over but the women are firing. Come down to Whitten Oval on Saturday night and watch them take on the Hawks. #aflw #doggies

I owe so much to this group of writers. We’ve been together since meeting in an online workshop in 2020, but this is the first time we’ve all been in the space. #rwaus2025

But mum, the postman must have meant it for me or he wouldn't have left it on the doorstep.

In Yarraville today... a bright golden wattle bursts into life and leans towards the morning sun. Spring is on the way.

21 books read in July (and that's counting the complete Mary Poppins as one). A special callout to @courtneymilan.com for the brilliant Brothers Sinister series, and to @jodimca.bsky.social for An Academic Affair, the first in a trilogy I can't wait to be written.

This from the RWAus annual conference program. As an organisation supporting authors, I'd have thought they might be opposed to the illegal use of data stolen from those same authors.

In Yarraville today… the sun rose. This happens often, but sometimes it’s just an absence of darkness creeping across the sky. This morning dawn exploded in a wave of colour, trumpeting the arrival of a new day.

June was all about comfort reads and authors. KJ Charles, Martha Wells, Alexis Hall, Lee Welch, Cat Sebastian. At least there were some new titles (I've only ever had 4 ARCs and 3 of them were this month).

I'm rereading Murderbot and Exit Strategy has extra meaning for me because Captain has also enjoyed it (look, he's not to blame, a friend returned it when I wasn't home and everyone knows things left on the doorstep are for him).

It's National Sorry Day, where we remember and acknowledge the Stolen Generations—Aboriginal children forcibly removed from their families, communities, Country, language and culture under previous government policies.
